By Michael Wilson

Do you hear similar statements like these: "You know what, I want to lose weight but don't just have much time to engage in exercises" and "Everybody wants to stay fit including myself but I just can't leave the house over long period of time"-yes these are all cries of people wanting a healthier lifestyle. You might want to call it exercise bike, stationary bicycle, or exercycle. These words all pertain to the bicycle-looking workout device with saddle, pedals, and some form of handlebars. Although you can't physically travel a distance through this bike, you will surely reach 'fitness' as the final destination. It is your stationary workout device basically requiring patience, endurance, and persistence. As a means for exercise, exercise bikes are also used to increase general fitness, and as training preparation for cycle events. Aside from it's usage convenience, it is also best used for physical therapy since it provides a low-impact, safe, and effective cardiovascular exercise.

Still don't have your own exercise bike-your first priority should be to purchase one! Do not hesitate to invest money in this fitness program so can be psychologically conditioned to take this seriously. There are two types of this workout equipment which you can choose from: upright bike and recumbent exercise bike. Recumbent bike is the bike you need to buy if you are seriously overweight or if you have back problems. A recumbent bike is good for such cases since it is much easier on the knees and back because of its more laid back position. On the other hand, if you want a real workout biking experience, you should opt for the upright bike.

Some of the things that you will need to prepare for your training are the following: (1) Exercise bike; (2) Water bottle; (3) Exercise towel; (4) Time; (5) Patience; and (6) Endurance. These are the tangible and intangible things that you will need to provide to get fit using an exercise bike. The first three things are material objects that will help you to start but the last three are the more important values that will keep you on track until you finish triumphantly. Keep in mind that you can't get the results overnight with this type of exercise; better prepare yourself in advance.

At the end of the day, the right attitude and focus will cause you to get fit using an exercise bike. An hour of stationary biking can give you an approximately one thousand calories at a top speed, or two hundred and fifty calories for a reasonable thirty-minute workout on a stationary bike. Most fitness experts agree that a sustained aerobic activity is the best fat-burner-an aspect that an exercise bike can give you in just a few minutes. Aside from these, exercise biking can also raise metabolism for sustained fat loss upon increasing muscle mass in the lower body. You might ask, how about the impact? No reason to worry because exercise biking is easy on the skeleton, which provides virtually no impact on the upper body and just a low impact workout for the lower body.
