Just how Mirapex Can Assist Parkinson's Individuals Move Freely Once again?

By Jauras Dragusb

Mirapex, also known as Sifrol, Pramipexole, and Mirapex is a drug that is known best for its treatment of Parkinson's disease in its early stages. It contains a compound that activates the brain's dopamine receptors in those who lack them. It is available only with a doctor's prescription and is taken orally.

The condition is a degenerative disease that effects the nervous system. Signs include shaking, decreased movements and general instability as the disorder impairs the sufferer's motor skills, cognitive thinking and similar functions. Most patients with Parkinson's start showing signs in their late sixties, however younger people have been diagnosed.

Treating the disorder consists of exercise, constant maintenance, support groups, and education for the family. Currently, there are no cures for Parkinson's disease, but with the right surgeries and medications, some of the symptoms of a patient can at least be alleviated sufficiently.

Parkinson's is a degenerative disease which means that the substantia nigra and neurons of the brain become damaged irrevocably over time. Brain receptors are not capable of receiving the dopamine from decaying neurons. This leads the brain to lose its ability to control functions like basic movements. Acting as an activator for dopamine, it is able to restore significant amounts of brain signals within the patient.

Invasive treatments of the disease are rare and generally done to only a couple of cases. Advance stage patients, for who prescription therapy is useless, will see slight changes with ablative surgery. This surgery involves the damaging of brain areas, more specifically the ones that are in charge of movement and function. A person has to be in the 10 percent of Parkinson's patients who are in a late stage in order to be approved for the procedure and tend to see slight decreases in shaking and dementia.

Aside from its ability to decrease the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, this is also effective at fighting restless leg syndrome, sexual dysfunction, and headaches. Recent studies reveal that this drug has a good effect on people suffering from bipolar disorders and fibromyalgia.

Some effects of the medicine include headaches, nausea, loss of appetite, tiredness and insomnia. Different patients experience different side effects, so their physicians will watch their health during the first couple of days before making the prescription a permanent treatment. Other, less common, effects such as increased sexuality and compulsive shopping are more rare but a possibility as the drug leads to more stimulation in the mind's reward sections.
